Mars Pathfinder Landing Site
The Mars Pathfinder mission was the third
successful landing on Mars and brought us our best view of the red planet to
date. The view from the lander is of a desolate landscape. Large rocks and dirt
dominate the foreground. A few hill tops can be seen in the distance. It is fascinating
to see these pictures for the comfort of home. But the
three-D anaglyphs
give us the sense that we
are really there, tourist class. "Looking out the window to your left you
will see the twin peaks of the Sagen Memorial Station", the bus driver
might say. We can only image what will be seen as the next wave of landers
arrive this winter. In a little over one month we will double the number of
landing from three to six.
