My Pick of Pic's December 23, 2003 Viking II Landing Site On September 3, 1976, Viking II touched down on the vast plains of Utopia Planitia. This high resolution mosiac reveals a field of bolder for as far as the camera can see. Viking II ended its mission on April 11, 1980 after operating for two martian years.
