My Pick of Pic's November 3, 2003 Meridiani Planum - Selected MER Landing Site Meridian Planum has been selected as the landing site of the Mars Exploration Rover - 'Opportunity'. This map has been assembled to provide an overview of the landing site. Opportunity is scheduled to land Jan. 25th, 2004. The oval in the center of the map shows the target landing zone. The terrain in this area is varied and should provide some interesting vistas. The blue spot on the elevation map is a butte that will most likely be visible from the landing location.
